In the second quarter of 2022, South Africa saw notable trends in the performance of the top 5 navigation and maps applications on a unified platform, according to data from Sensor Tower.

The popular Waze Navigation & Live Traffic app maintained a consistent download rate, fluctuating around 10K to 12K weekly downloads. Active users showed a steady increase, starting at approximately 277K in late March and reaching nearly 297K by the end of June.

Google Maps experienced a somewhat stable download trend, with a peak of around 12.7K in the week of April 25. Active users, however, saw a slight dip initially but recovered to approximately 735K by the end of the quarter.

GPS, Maps, Voice Navigation from AppStar Studios had modest weekly revenue, peaking at $37 in the week of June 20. Weekly downloads ranged from 4K to 7K, with active users showing a decrease from around 22K in late March to about 18.7K by the end of June.

Google Earth saw a relatively stable download rate, hovering around 5K to 5.8K downloads per week. Active users remained steady, fluctuating between 39K and 45K throughout the quarter.

Finally, Street View Map and Navigation had variable weekly downloads, peaking at around 5.4K in the week of June 6. Active users showed an upward trend, starting at approximately 3.7K in late March and reaching about 4.8K in early June, before settling around 3.6K by the end of June.
